Spania, Madrid – delegaţie

Martie 2015

De la măsuţa din camera hotelului admir apusul roşiatic. Nu mă laud, dar cred că am primit cea mai bună cameră de data asta. Priveliştea e incredibil de romantică, sau … îmi e prea dor de el.

 

După ce surprind cerul din toate unghiurile, revin la al meu laptop unde caut la întâmplare un zbor ieftin, că doar trebuie şi în aprilie să merg undeva.

Întorc Skyscanner’ul pe toate părţile, combinat cu Ryanair’ul care da, pleacă doar din Bucureşti, cu o ofertă destul de slabă, dar dacă pleci cu un Wizz bun din Cluj, îl poţi combina cu celălalt din Italia, Spania şi ajungi la un preţ atrăgător în locuri mai îndepărtate, în Maroc, Irlanda, Norvegia, Suedia, Finlanda sau Portugalia.

Asta pentru cine îşi doreşte o vacanţă de 4-5 zile în 2 ţări diferite. E nevoie de pasiune aici. Altfel, te plângi jumătate din timp de cât de obositor e prin aeroport.

Cu puţină răbdare atingi 3 destinaţii Cluj – Malmo – Copenhaga – New York la 500€ + bagaje.

Contactul meu de apelare rapidă:

Cine “mă ajută” cu aceste idei e Mihai Jurca. L-am descoperit pe când mă învârteam în lumea ProTVului pe facebook. În ultimul an, de când am şi eu un job, i-am găsit foarte utile articolele. Recunosc, ideea lui de ieftin e undeva la acceptabil în bugetul meu, but you learn to work around it. Însă datorită simulărilor lui de oferte de zboruri am găsit preţul excelent pentru Rio de Janeiro. Asta a fost oferta completă.

Aici găsiţi postarea ce se află în atenţia mea în prezent, i-am ales şi un nume: “Cum să-mi îndeplinesc încă un vis în SUA”.

Not my cup of tea, going into money details, dar asta a fost călătoria ce a generat cele mai multe întrebări în 2015.

Prima mea reacţie la un astfel de anunţ e:

Îmi ajung banii să mă descurc în restul lunii, dacă îl cumpăr acum?

Încep o listă orientativă de cheltuieli pentru următoarele 3 săptămâni:

aerobic, vopsit, unghii, chirie/camin, diverse

Norocul a făcut să am deoparte exact 400 euro în fondul pentru SUA şi aşa am rămas fără ei, dar asta e.

Biletele se puteau achiziţiona doar de pe siteul Alitalia, cu ocazia aniversării companiei, în decursul a 15 zile, de când am văzut oferta, pentru martie-iunie. Sfârşitul lui aprilie respecta toate criteriile după care aleg o destinaţie, în exact ordinea următoare:

• Temperatura perfectă
• O durată acceptabilă a zilei 
• Costul transportului intern, sau posibilitatea şi siguranţa mersului pe jos
• Preţul mediu de cazare
• Perioada optimă de concediu – disponibilitatea de la job

Ok, deci să vedem cum e vremea şi cât de lungă e ziua la oamenii ăştia.

Am prins între 24 şi 30 de grade, cu apus pe la 7. Sună bine zic eu, comparativ cu litoralul nostru unde bătea un vânt puternic la vreo 15 grade, dar românii, totuşi, au cheltuit sute de euro în cluburi “pentru că trebuie să ne petrecem de 1 mai”. 

Visam la un tur al Americii de Sud într-o vară în SUA, dar nu mi-am dorit vreodată să ajung în Rio, am vrut în sudul Argentinei, aşa că am fost puţin sceptică şi doritoare de un partener de călătorie. Prietenii ştiu cum imi prezentam concediul:

Păi mai merg în Spania în delegaţie, aaa da, şi în Rio!

Şi primeam ca răspuns:

Rio… în Brazilia? Cât e de scump? De unde ai bani? Şi mergi singură? Nu, aici nu mergi singură, poate te fură cineva prin favele!

Şi aşa, ascultând de gura lumii, mă trezesc întrebând vreo 6 persoane, ori pentru că m-am gândit că s-ar aventura, ori pentru că mi s-a părut că şi-ar permite, ori pentru că îmi plăcea persoana. Răspuns negativ, categoric: bani, perioadă, siguranţă- cam astea au fost motivele.

Să fiu sinceră, nici nu ştiam ce-s favelele la început. Mi-am întrebat prietenul Google. Aaaa, imi amintesc! Colorate şi periculoase. A must see!(cu siguranţă asta nu a fost şi părerea mamei mele).

Nu am mai stat pe gânduri.

6 zile de concediu, pentru 24 aprilie-4 mai.

La hostel, în New York, în decembrie 2014, am avut două colege de cameră din Brazilia. Una locuia în Canada, cealaltă în Irlanda.

Aşa că apelez direct la ele cu întrebarea:

Ce să fac 9 zile în Rio/Brazilia?

Răspunsul unui localnic e de cele mai multe ori mai bun decât cel găsit pe internet. Clar, obţin o listă lungă de obiective pe care încep să le caut pe Pinterest. Cea mai accesibilă şi impresionantă a fost Cascada Iguazu. Nici nu se compară cu Niagara.

Patrimoniu UNESCO situat între Brazilia şi Argentina.

Am considerat că o zi îmi ajunge acolo. Am găsit pe Skyscanner un zbor cu vreo 130€, pe care cam greu îi dai, când te gândeşti că te-a costat doar de 2 ori mai mult să treci oceanul, dar mofturile-s mofturi.

Pentru Rio am organizat liste pe zile cu tot ce trebuie văzut şi în ce moment al zilei e recomandat, raportându-mă la distanţa de pe harta printată, lângă toate celelalte documente de călătorie.

Am totul planificat mereu, dar niciodată nu respect ce am scris, ajung în toate punctele, dar în altă ordine. Depinde mult de vreme, de programul obiectivelor turistice, dar şi de oamenii pe care îi întâlnesc.

Pe scurt, e ieftin. Realul lor e aproape echivalentul leului nostru.

Spain, Madrid – business trip

March 2015

From the desk in my hotel room I’m staring at the sunset. Not to brag, but I think I got the best room this time. The view is so romantic! After a photo session with the sun I get back to my laptop where I randomly search for a cheap flight for April.

I turn Skyscanner upside down, with RyanAir and Wizz.

Western Europe has the cheapest flights anywhere. You can mix and match if you’re from Eastern Europe, use a Wizz to go somewhere like Spain, Italy, France then take RyanAir for further places such as Morocco, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, also good prices for North America. This works for who wants a mini trip of 4-5 days in 2 countries.

But you need passion here, otherwise you’ll just complain about airport traffic. With some patience you can go Cluj-Malmo(Wizz)-Copenhaga-NewYork(NorvegianAir) at only 500€, plus bags.

I have to admit, his idea of cheap is acceptable for me, but you learn to work around it. He writes in Romanian for Romania only, so I’ll spare you the details, if you want, you can check the blog.

The most popular question I hear is:

Where do you get the money for all your trips?

First, I work around discounts and offers within the airlines. If I find a deal same as the one of 360€ Bucharest-Rio de Janeiro, I ask myself if I can survive till the next paycheck if I buy it?

Next, I make a list of expenses: aerobics, dying my hair, doing my nails, rent and others.

For this one I was lucky, I has 400€ saved from  my USA savings, but oh well.

The tickets were available for 15 days on Alitalia, it was the company’s anniversary, valid for a period of your choice in March-June. End of April was the best period according my criteria:

• Temperature
• Enough daytime period
• Internal transportation cost or the possibility and safety of walking
• the medium cost of hostels/hotels
• Best time off from work period – availability

In this specific order!

Ok, so lets see how the weather and the length of the day are.

I had 24-30 degrees, with the sunset at 7. Not bad, right?

I was dreaming of a South American Tour while in the USA, but then I gave up, I actually wanted to go to the South of Argentina, at the Tierra del Fuego. So for Rio I was a little skeptical, I even asked around for a travel companion. If you know I asked you, I probably thought you’d be up for if and have the money, or I liked you and hoped for the other two. Of course I got a no for many reasons, as expected. Too soon, not enough money, not safe.

Alone is it then! At first I didn’t know what a favela is, to be honest. I don’t really care about something until I know I can see and experience it.

When talking about my next trips I used to say:

Well, I’ll go to Spain for work, then Rio.

The reaction was:

Rio … de Janeiro? How expensive is it? Where do you have the money from? And you’re not going alone, not there, right?

6 days off for April 24th till the 4th of May.

At the hostel in New York, in December 2014, I had two roommates from Brasil. One was living in Canada and the other one in Ireland, but they grew up there, so it is still better than Google.

What to do for 9 days in Brasil/Rio?

They both gave me a list of places. I searched for everything on Pinterest. What amazed me and was also an accessible travel site, were the Iguazu Falls. Not even worth comparing with Niagara. An UNESCO heritage located on the borders of Brasil and Argentina. I decided a day is enough for it, so I searched for the cheapest flight on Skyscanner, it was about 130€, that you hardly pay after you already gave a triple amount on the one over the ocean. But if I set my mind on it, it has to happen.

For Brasil I made lists with the must see places: Trem do Corcovado, Pao de Acucar, Jardim Botanico, Favela Tour, Parque Lage, Laguna Rodrigo de Freitas, Barra Shopping Center, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Flamengo Parc, Las Cataratas del Iguazu; with time duration and dates, using a printed map of the city. I always do that. It helps keeping track of everything you want to see, but of course weather conditions, sites schedule changes and people you meet can turn upside down any list, at any point.

Long story short, it’s cheap. Their currency, the Brazilian real, it’s a quarter euro and has almost the same value as the RON.

• Cost/ nights ≈ 100€
  • Iguazu Falls: 2 nights in a room of 3 girls, but it was only me; breakfast included ≅30€
  • Copacabana hostel: 6 nights in a room of 8 girls with bathroom in the room and on the floor; breakfast included ≅ 50€
  • Ocean Inn Leblon hostel: one night in a room of 8 girls with bathroom in the room and on the floor 8€
• bus tickets – $3.00/ trip
• touristic sites fees in BRL: $51.00,  $31.00- for students, double for adults, $9.00, $80.00, $300.00≅ 120€
